A Christmas Wish

So here we are, another year gone by so soon
it's the season of joy, forgiveness and reflection
family comes together beneath the December moon
its a time to look back and think of future resolution

Christmas decorations shining brightly throughout
mistletoe and holly almost everywhere you look
Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes, inside and out
gifts stockings and the traditionally empty bank book

Carols a plenty, a feast about to be cooked for everyone
friends and family getting together for some fun and games
its the best time of the year and the world is united as one
but for some people, its not always the same

There are those in the world who don't own anything
no home, no family or friends to celebrate with at all
and we, those who are fortunate to have people and things
often forget about them, but when we're reminded we feel small

At least in this hallow month, when we can all be together
lets give something back to those in need, to those with nothing
maybe this Christmas, we can all feel just a little better
and our fellow human beings can smile about something

So let this Christmas be the one where everyone makes a difference
one where peace runs through all hearts, regardless of religion or ethnicity
this is my wish this Christmas, that the world will regain its magnificence
so to the world a Merry Christmas and peace on earth for all eternity

White Rum Blues

Alone at the bar, trying to drown his sorrows
wandering to himself if there's a better tomorrow
with each sip, he dwells further into his past
sitting there through the night, until the bottle spills its last

A bottle, a bucket of ice and an ashtray on his table
drinking all night until he cant stand, or is barely able
a mind already so clouded, just getting darker
once a clear picture, now blurred out by a black marker

Reminiscing about the his past mistakes
Singing sad songs, wondering what it takes
To amend his wrongs and make things right
But he slips so far,  he just gives up the fight

The bar keep looks at him, staring blindly into space
wondering to himself 'how does this guy keep this pace?'
his mind is open and free from all the poisonous memories,
only when his body is overflowing with booze, does he find his victory

The only thing that he doesn't want to is get in to a fight
because that would only ruin not only his but also everyone else's night
so he sits their, quietly and continues his reflection,
of a life torn apart by dumb decisions and rejection

At the end of the night, when its finally time to go
and he's staggers out of the bar and nearly falls to the flow
he's knows in his heart that someday he'll get his dues
and maybe then, he can find a cure to these white rum blues

Into the horizon..

Riding alone, passing through town after town
only his horse and six shooter by his side
barely a friend in the world, he always wears a frown
only fearing the responsibilities of settling at the end of ride

Sitting down in the evenings by light of a fire
haunted by the screaming that he hears in his head
feeling so lonely, though there is one his heart desires
the weight of the world on his shoulders, echoing in the tears he has shed

So much burden he carries with him in his heart
so much pain he wishes he could be free of
when he sits down to think, he doesn't know where to start
the one he loves in his head, a smile so wide and skin so soft

As he reflects on his past and everything he has been through
the anger in him grows and it motivates him to continue moving
and there is one fact about him that is undoubtedly true
he fears no man and his heart of hearts needs no proving

In his heart of hearts he is a good man and many would agree
helping people with their problems at every turn
a crying shoulder to all, no matter where he would be
then sitting down to ponder with a cigarette to burn

He see's that his job is done, and spends a night at a bar
the bitter taste lingering from his alcoholic poison
as he wakes before his journey that will take him afar
and the like those lonesome cowboys, he rides into the horizon
